Emma Walsh, CEO of Parents At Work, introduces the Advancing Parental Leave Equality Network at its soft launch in February 2019.

Last month Parents At Work launched APLEN – the Advancing Parental Leave Equality Network – in collaboration with the Embassy of Sweden, the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), and a number of major corporates, researchers and industry experts.

APLEN is the new parental leave equality network that will continue the conversation about creating more gender equal workplaces and homes when it comes to caring responsibilities.

This Network will aim to promote an inclusive approach to workplace parental leave policies and practices through pioneering research, education and awareness to breakdown barriers perpetuate women as primary carers and men as secondary.

A group of leading Australian and Swedish organisations, alongside gender equity and parenting advocacy groups gathered together on February 20th 2019 to create a vision for the Network to better support both men and women to share parental leave in 2019 and beyond.

This is just the beginning as APLEN kicks off – stay tuned for more updates as the scope of the new network takes shape.
